Ephesians 5:22-25 (NIV)
22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of
the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to
their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave
himself up for her

Ephesians 6:1-4 (NIV)
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
2 “Honor your father and mother”–which is the first commandment with
a promise–
3 “that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

When I counsel men I instruct them to learn how to love their wives. I tell the women to learn how to submit to their husbands. And both of them to treat their children with kindness and gentleness. The Lord comes first. My wife comes second. My children come third. My brothers and sisters in the Lord come fourth. My job comes fifth.

That means I love my wife more than my children. I told them that when they were 8 or 9 years old. Loving your wife makes your children feel safe. Fathers and mothers play with your children, talk to them, read to them, pray with them, teach them and live out the gospel before your children. Treat your brothers and sisters in the Lord better than your unbelieving brothers or sisters. When Christ redeemed us he made a new creation. When Christ died for us we died with him and when Christ rose from the dead we rose from dead also, that made us a new creation. Sin does not have have a hold on us anymore because we have the Holy Spirit inside of us directing us, comforting us, forgiving us, and praying for us.

So our first priority is to repent and offer forgiveness to those who offend us. Treat people with kindness, gentleness and patience. And regard the Lord as your Father. Love your wife and spend time with her and enjoy her. Treat your children with care right after you disciplined them, hug them and tell them how you love them. On earth your priority is your family. Paul says, if you neglect your family or if you abuse your family then you are worse than an unbeliever.
