Forgive Instead of Living Like a Victim

When kids are abused for a long time, they become angry, depressed or addicted, that was my path.  What is sad is when the Father or Mother resurfaces with a loving spirit coming to ask for forgiveness.  They became a Christian a few years ago and the Holy Spirit freed them from their demons.  Some children will turn away because of their bitterness and refuse to forgive them.  Some want their fathers or mothers to own up to the wrong they did to them.

As Christians we have no right not to forgive our parents even if they have not changed at all.   Bitterness leaves us emotionally immature nurturing how much we have been wronged.  Our bitterness, depression and living like a victim become a god to us and until we turn to Christ about our past and give it to him we will continue to be emotional pigmies.   Because of that we cannot grow spiritually either.  Our pasts color our theology, and we never learn how to trust in Jesus Christ.

Men and women who live like this are more concerned about their parents repentance than their own.  This is a tragedy that they are so consumed about their abuse they will not repent.  Their eyes are always on the pain, sucking life from it, but it betrays them, leaving them depressed and angry.

You have heard that it was said, ‘Love you neighbor and hate your enemy.  But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you that you be sons of your Father in Heaven.          Matthew 5:43-44

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.  Matthew 6:14-15

People who are being abuse need to get away from the offenders and call the police.    However, we as Christians NEED to forgive everyone who has offended us.  When we forgive a relationship can be restored and we a free from the debilitating effects from our past.  We will always remember the abuse but it will no longer bring us pain when we think about it.  We need to leave justice in God’s hands and move on to a loving relationship with our parent or parents and never bring up the past again.

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever.   Galatians 1:3-4

Check this out this blog Following Christ in NYC his title of his April 4, 2009 blog is Ancestral Bondage.  Blog it.

The secret to the Christian life is trusting the Lord implicitly, and repent when we sin, and forgive everyone who has ever hurt us.  We will become less emotional, less easily offended, living  peaceful and a joyful life and unafraid of the future.
