In Hebrews12:14 says, “Make every effort to live in peace with all and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.” Do we notice the tight connection be how we treat others as a mark of holiness?

We are to treat every person we encounter with love and respect.  Remember Love is a verb.

“Love must be sincere.  Hate what is evil and cling to what is good.  Be devoted to one another above yourselves.  Honor one another above yourselves.” Romans 12:9-10

“Brothers if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently.  But watch yourself or you may also may be tempted.  Carry each others burdens, an in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.  If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.  Each one should test his own actions.   Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself  to somebody else, for each one should carry his own load.” Galatians 6:1-5

Paul is telling us when some one sins we should address them with gentleness.  Also we bear our own burdens as we help others to bear theirs.  Finally, the Lord tells us not to compare ourselves to other people because we should be worrying all about ourselves by carrying his own load.

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against another.  Forgive as the Lord forgave you.  And over all these virtues put on Love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Colossians 3:12-14

Our motivation to treat people with love is because God has chosen us an redeemed us.  We can let sins against us pass by us, forgiving their wrong against us.   Pray asking for the fruits of the Holy Spirit and that the Father will develop them in you.  Paul says in another place that if we possess the fruits of the Holy Spirit there is no law.

Peter tells us, “Above all, love covers over a multitude of sins.” 4:8

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” I Thessalonians 5:11

“Who ever love his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble.” I John 2:10

We can treat each other with kindness and gentleness by the power of the Cross and with the Holy Spirit helping us.

Think about Jesus.  Did he ever mistreat a sinner? No, he never did.

Should we act any differently?
