Jacob was denied Isaac’s love because his father favored Esau who was a mans man.   Jacob wanted his fathers blessing but because he stole it from Esau it wasn’t real.  He went to his mothers brother Laban and found Rachel to be ravishingly beautiful.    He replaced desire for his fathers love for the love of  Rachel.

Leah was yet to be married because she was unattractive.  I know about teenage girls watching my sisters and my daughters and it appears to me most girls grow up wanting to be swept of their feet by a prince.    And most girl’s desires for love is so strong they may given into love in search of love.   Leah wanted her husband Jacob to love her but Jacob kept his heart for only Rachel.

So Jacob satisfies his father love with the love of Rachel for the time being.   But Leah is heart sick and pining away because Jacob is indifferent to her.   Two broken people putting their hopes in another person.   Jacob left home without saying good bye to his father and with a brother who wants his life.

Our misplaced hopes often betray us in the end and then we go in search for someone or something else that we hope will  fill the hole in our hearts that never seems to heal.   We are still broken.

we have what we don’t want, and want what we don’t have.
God is always waiting to be wrestled with, full of blessing to bestow if we truly, deeply desire it, but too soon and how easily we become distracted from the arduous proving and so quit long before we ever reach “I will not let you go until you bless me!”

Good to talk with you this week. I mailed my material to you in the last couple of days. You should get it soon.

With respect to your devotional above, it reminds me of the comment that a couple may be in love with love or the idea of being in love rather in love with each other. It is late and I am too tired to sort this profundity out for either of us to understand it. God bless you and thanks for being such a blessing to me through the years.
